We pay also insurance for our house and it is 11 €/per month. We each pay 120€/per month, but we have some extra things covered, so it’s possible to have cheaper health insurance. So 78 € plus Netflix brings us to 89 € in total per month.Īn important item from your monthly budget in the Netherlands will be health insurance, which is obligatory to pay here if you are a resident of this country. Anyway, you can always use the app on your TV to watch NPO (National Dutch Television) where you will find plenty of typical Dutch shows and news. We don't pay TV because honestly we watch mostly Netflix or we buy movies from the Dutch cinema chain Pathé. There might be a Dutch person who will say that you can pay less for the phone services but trust and believe that we had to go to many providers to find one that was open to giving us a nice data+call plan so we could have a Dutch phone number and enjoy full usage of our smartphones. Because we have chosen a package from T-mobile with unlimited internet and free minutes for international calls, each of us pays 25 € plus 28 € for the internet together, so 78€ (this is not an ad, we are just happy with the services so why not mention them as a positive review). This price is around 100 €/week, so 400 €/month on average. For health insurance, something between 100 -120 €/ per person, subscription for cell phone 15 - 30 €/ per person, electricity/water/gas is usually between 60 - 100 €, internet + tv could be around 25 - 50 €. How many times did it fail or how many times did you have to do it again? I think I am becoming much more aware of understanding how much money I do actually have to spend and how much I would like to spend, so I wanted to make a summary of how much it costs to live here. I have a feeling that everyone at least once in their adult lives, sat behind a table, took a pen, paper, and started to make a monthly budget with one logical goal: save money. You need to think about the money that you have to spend every month… whether you want to or not. In this article, I would like to focus more on the financial aspect of life in the Netherlands, and I am not referring to the salary as a dentist here. In my last article “Country roads, take me home (and to work)”, I've talked about traveling to work in the Netherlands.
